Odisha Chief Minister Charan Mohan Majhi on Thursday strongly condemned the alleged derogatory remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother during a rally in Darbhanga, Bihar. He accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his party of “committing a sin” by allowing such abuses.
“This has never happened in the country’s 78-year political history, not even against top leaders. It reflects the ideology of Rahul Gandhi and his allies. The Gandhi family ruled for decades, and their frustration at being out of power is now visible. Rahul Gandhi and Congress have sinned by using such language against a woman who gave birth to a son like PM Modi. The nation will not tolerate this and will give them a fitting reply,” Majhi told ANI.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also condemned the incident, claiming it was an insult not just to PM Modi’s mother but to all women.
“The words used against the late mother of PM Modi from a stage shared by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav reveal the mindset of the INDIA bloc. This kind of politics is unacceptable. Even a thousand apologies will not erase such an act. It shows their desperation as they have no real issues to raise,” Sawant said, extending full support to PM Modi.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress of lowering political standards and demanded an apology from both Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav. Congress, however, has dismissed the charges, saying the BJP is focusing on “irrelevant issues.”
The controversy erupted during the ongoing ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar, led by Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, which is aimed at highlighting alleged irregularities in the voter list that the opposition calls “vote theft.”
